Hermanus Centre:

Easy parking on a rental scooter, while exploring the quaint shops, art galleries, the Country Market, restaurants, flea markets, a walk on the well-known Cliff Path, or just a short drive to Sievers Point or Kwaaiwater, known as great lookout points to sight the Southern Right Whales. A stop off at Fernkloof nature reserve, with great hiking routes or a swim in the ocean on one of the beautiful Blue Flag beaches, Voelklip or Grotto. A visit to Dutchies, Ficks Pool or Bietang’s Cave, the latter a seafood restaurant set in a cave on rocks above the ocean, all highly recommended as part of your outing!

Gansbaai / De Kelders  Village:

Take the R43 towards Gansbaai a fishing village, known for Great White Shark Cage Diving and Whale watching! On route explore a small riverside village Stanford, where you can take a boat cruise on The Klein River, explore wine farms or pop into Birkenhead Breweries for a craft beer tasting and lunch. You may also want to visit Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary, where you can observe lions, cheetahs, leopards and Bengal tigers (pre-bookings only). Then on to De Kelders a suburb of Gansbaai, known for numerous caves formed due to erosion of underwater aquifers, the most famous” Klipgat” cave, with a window-like opening that yields spectacular views of the bay!

Hemel en Aarde Valley:

Is a wine producing area tucked away on the R320 route, behind the seaside town of Hermanus. The name means Heaven and Earth and comes from the surrounding peaks that seems so high almost touching the sky and the pure beauty of the valley. It is characterised by rolling vineyards, towering mountains and a scattering of beautiful farmland, home to more than 20 wine producers. While there are highly sought-after wines, some farms like Creation received the 3rd best Vinyard award in the World, in 2024. There are no large volume producers but very high-end wines. Most of the farms also have restaurants, where you can be sure along with award winning wines, to have an amazing culinary experience!

Clarence Drive:

Take the R43 route from Hermanus and turn onto the R44, visit Kleinmond a popular holiday destination, with a beautiful blue flag beach. On to Betty’s Bay, known for its conservation status. Visit the African penguin colony at Stony Point, one of 2 land-based penguin colonies in the country. Nearby you will find the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens and Kogelberg nature reserve,  the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom, with several hiking options. Continue to Gordons Bay on Clarence drive and experience breath-taking views and an exhilarating drive, with no fewer than 77 bends and corners. Allowing plenty of opportunities to enjoy the gorgeous views from several lookout points.
